  4. Observational pencil sketch of an aboriginal mask
  5. Observational ink study of a Polynesian statue
  6. From top: acrylic painting of a halved pomegranate; pointillism ink study of a passionfruit (the first with a coffee stained background, the second with digital and watercolour textures); a red flower/seedpod; acrylic painting on wood of a cut papaya, using very thin strokes to achieve a watercolour effect. All of these were studies from life.

  Thank you Kirsty. Would you believe the day before this was due it was lying unfinished in front of me and I forgot about it until the evening? Silly, silly mistake - but if I had started earlier, perhaps it wouldn’t look like this. Who knows? :D

  This is a shoddy picture I too of my competition brief (Derwent prize); finally finished it last night! This is full graphite/pencil, A2.
  
  This is a camel with a backdrop of mud cloth from Mali. Both are symbolic of transience - the camel of journeys and life, and the mud cloth being used in conjunction with births and deaths.

  ANIMATION DONE! (For assessment)

  This is an interpretation of Poe’s The Black Cat. This was a huge effort; hundreds of drawings, hours of colouring and clean up and editing… Honestly, it’s an insane but rewarding process. Do take a look and tell me what you think?

  TW blood and death (drawn blood and death that is, but I know people who don’t like that sorta thing.) It’s a dark, dark story.

  Life drawings! Bit of a mistake going, I missed drawing a model - but I did lose a few hours of animation time. Anyway - here’s a few sketches. Not my best effort admittedly, but the room got so painstakingly warm I was bordering on fainting.

  Having a scan day today! I have been dreading this moment since forever. I hate scanning work in. Especially when there’s a few hundred. I should not have left this to the end. Silly Jess.

  I wish I had a scanner where I could just feed all my work in and it would do it itself… like a photocopier. That would be the ultimate useful thing.

  My wrist and arm are hurting quite a bit from military-style drawing! Darn you animation, why do you require so much effort ;A:

  On a lighter note, I have 120 more images to produce - and then it’s on to shadows! And texture! And then scanning! And then putting it all together. I can get it done in 3 weeks, right? Right?!
